I really proud to be posting this piece, I think it's one of my best works.

A few months back, Joe [link] Kachadourian asked me about helping him out with a few prints / posters he was working on, and naturally, I said HELL YEAH!!

Last week I got these sweet-ass lines in the emailz and got cracking on them right away. Joe's lines are so clean and crisp, they were a real treat to colour and I had a lot of fun doing it.

I should be getting some more wicked lines from Joe soon, so keep an eye out for more from us.

Cass isn't pale enough, but other than that, you did magnificently.

You're damned right - this IS some of your best colouring to date! Excellent palette of colours, and great attention to shadows.

How did you do the halo effect withthe yelloey light around the character art?

Thanks man. I think my palette choice is really starting to improve.

It's kinda tricky to explain, but I basically selected all the space around the characters, then did in stroke inside the selection with yellow. Then it was just a simple gausain blur and that's it.

Seems like a simple enough explanation to me. :) And I've learned something from that.

Regarding colour palettes, do you have any set palette that you work within? I did the classic cheat of finding an old 128-colour palette in a 'how to colour comics' book ages ago, and manually built a set of Photoshop swatches from that. It's a laborious task, but it steered me on the right path to making solid colour choices.

I wish I could find the time to do more colouring.

Eh, nothing fancy like that at all.

Now I'm curious!

I'd recommend finding a complimentary palette somewhere. Photoshop and most graphics apps have a range pre-loaded (although they're not always suitable for comics work) and there's other ways of arriving at them. I've found it takes a lot of the guesswork out of working out complimentary colour schemes.

Yeah, I guess I should really look into that. All I do is play round till I get something that looks good.

Hey - that works too! I remember my old art tutor telling me 'theory is good - but there's always a place for trial and error in art.'
